President Pumping and Dumping: The Leaked Statement of the Minister Exposes Milei's Libra Scandal
Diana Mondino, the former Foreign Minister of Argentina, made a public appearance on August 8. She gave an interview with Mehdi Hasan of Al Jazeera. Mondino left the government of President Javier Milei in October 2024. She had made few public appearances until this interview. Mondino mentioned that Milei promoted a cryptocurrency called "Libra". Milei confirmed this token through his official X account on February 14. After his post, the token price surged significantly. Then, the price suddenly dropped sharply. Milei later deleted the post. He confirmed that he wrote the post but said he did not have enough knowledge about the project. The Reports Point Out Hidden Anomalies Three wallets hold most of the tokens. The project's website was registered on the promotion date. These patterns indicate the possibility of a "rug pull" scam occurring. Developers sometimes abandon the project after artificially inflating its value. Hasan asked Mondino whether Milei acted correctly. She replied: "No. He shouldn't tweet like that." When asked about Milei's motives, she suggested that someone had advised him. Hasan noted a profit of 250 million dollars for parties of unknown identity. Mondino presented two possibilities: "Either he is not very smart, or he is corrupt. You choose. I don't know." Hasan repeated this statement. Later, Mondino softened her tone in the tense exchange. Mondino also quoted criticisms from economist Carlos Rodríguez. Rodríguez, who previously advised Milei, is now opposing him. Rodríguez insinuated that Milei may have mental instability. Mondino refused to deny these allegations. She said: "I have worked with both... I have to say that Carlos Rodríguez is always right."
