On August 2, news reported by Caixin stated that U.S. President Trump posted on social media "Truth Social" on August 1, accusing Bureau of Labor Statistics Director Erica McEntarfer of "artificially inflating" employment data ahead of the 2024 U.S. election and demanding her immediate dismissal to be replaced by "a more capable candidate." Trump claimed that the Bureau had significantly overestimated new jobs in March 2024 and in the months leading up to the election, believing this move aimed to boost Vice President Harris's chances of victory. He also criticized the Fed for lowering interest rates before the election as "manipulating the market" and suggested that Chairman Powell should be replaced. On the same day, U.S. Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer announced that Bureau of Labor Statistics Deputy Director William Wyattrofsky would serve as acting director, replacing Erica McEntarfer.
