Netflix used AI to create a scene in a series

Netflix has started using artificial intelligence in its films and shows. This was stated by co-CEO Ted Sarandos during a conference call following the quarter's results, TechCrunch reports.

The platform has introduced for the first time a "final footage created by generative AI" referring to the Argentine series El Eternauta.

The internal production team, together with the producers, used AI to create the building collapse scene. This allowed them to complete the work ten times faster compared to traditional visual effects tools and reduce costs.

"We still believe that AI represents an incredible opportunity to help creators make movies and series not only cheaper but also better. There are AI-based tools that enhance authors. […] They are already experiencing the benefits at the pre-production stages: when planning scenes and in pre-visualization, and of course, in visual effects. Previously, only big-budget projects could afford complex VFX like de-aging," he said.

Co-CEO Greg Peters added that Netflix is using generative AI in other areas, including personalization and advertising.

Recall that in May, the company introduced a new search feature based on generative artificial intelligence from OpenAI.
