The family of a Belgian encryption entrepreneur was kidnapped. Three kidnappers were sentenced to 12 years in prison and ordered to pay 1 million euros in compensation.
On July 4, according to reports, the Brussels Criminal Court in Belgium ruled on a case related to the kidnapping of a crypto entrepreneur. Three kidnappers were sentenced to 12 years each for abducting the wife of local crypto entrepreneur Stéphane Winkel in December 2024 and demanding a ransom in Crypto Assets. They are also required to pay at least 1 million euros in civil compensation to the victim.
Reports indicate that the mastermind behind the case has not yet been captured. Although the victims were rescued in time by the police, they suffered severe physical and mental trauma, leading the Winkel couple to be forced to relocate. Winkel is the founder of the crypto education platform Crypto Académie, which has 40,000 subscribers on its video channel. After the incident, he stated that he would adjust his content strategy to focus on safety education rather than wallet operation demonstrations.
